UNICEF Boosts Cholera Response in Zambia with ORS Donation
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has stepped up its support in the fight against the cholera epidemic in Zambia by donating 320,000 sachets of Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS) to the Government through the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA).
Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi, the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, expressed gratitude for UNICEF’s timely contribution during the handover ceremony at the ZAMMSA central warehouse.
He commended UNICEF for its commitment to the cause and called on other cooperating partners to join forces in combatting the cholera epidemic.
Dr. Lishimpi voiced confidence that through collaborative efforts and innovative approaches, the country would overcome the challenges posed by the cholera outbreak.
He emphasized the need for a robust and agile cholera elimination plan and its effective implementation.
Victor Nyasulu, the Director General of Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA), underscored the agency’s dedication to the fight against the pandemic.
Mr. Nyasulu highlighted ZAMMSA’s commitment to ensuring the timely procurement and distribution of essential medicines and medical supplies crucial for the management and treatment of cholera.
The donation of ORS by UNICEF is expected to significantly contribute to the control and management of the cholera epidemic, providing a vital tool in the treatment and rehydration of individuals affected by the disease.
