Kamanga Calls for Transparency in U17 Player Selections During Provincial Trials
The Under-17 provincial trials have commenced in Lusaka, featuring all 10 provinces in competitive matches at Sunset Stadium and NASDEC ground.
Reuben Kamanga, the General Secretary of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), inaugurated the event, which adopts a round-robin format. The selectors aim to identify 22 players who will compete against the All-Stars team on January 6, 2023, at Sunset Stadium.
Mr. Kamanga emphasized the importance of transparency in the selection process, urging the panel to choose players based on merit rather than their origin.
“This exercise is a good opportunity for us to see which players can make the squad that will be competitive enough to play in the World Cup qualifiers. I urge you all to choose on merit and not look at where the players are coming from,” Mr. Kamanga stated.
With 180 players from provinces and the All-Stars Team, Kamanga expressed confidence in assembling a robust team. He encouraged the selectors to identify the best talent, wishing them success in the tournament.
The trials align with FAZ’s strategy to strengthen the Zambia U17 Women’s National Team ahead of the 2024 World Cup qualifier matches against Tanzania next month.
