LUX Launches “Chin Up” Tool to Tackle Modern ‘Text Neck’ Problem

Global beauty brand LUX has introduced a new digital wellness initiative called “Chin Up”, aimed at addressing the growing issue of “text neck” caused by prolonged smartphone use and poor posture.

Launched in collaboration with VML, the campaign targets the physical effects of excessive scrolling, which often leads to slouched posture, reduced confidence, and what the brand describes as a diminished sense of presence.

According to LUX, modern smartphone habits are reshaping not only how people communicate, but also how they physically carry themselves. Long hours spent looking down at mobile devices can contribute to strain on the neck and shoulders, commonly referred to as “text neck.”

The brand argues that this posture shift is subtly affecting confidence and self-expression, particularly among young women who are heavy social media users.

The LUX Chin Up tool is a lightweight web-based application that uses a phone’s motion sensors to monitor the angle at which a device is held.

Designed for use in split-screen mode, the tool remains visible while users scroll through content, offering real-time posture guidance.

It operates through three key functions:

  • Optimal angle guidance: Encourages users to maintain a 90-degree viewing angle
  • Real-time alerts: The screen gently flashes when the phone is lowered too far
  • Posture reset: Users are prompted to straighten up and correct their position before continuing

LUX Global Brand Vice President Gaurav Datta said the initiative reflects the brand’s ongoing focus on confidence and self-expression in the digital era.

He noted that while smartphones enhance digital identity, they can also unintentionally reduce physical presence and poise, making posture awareness an important part of modern beauty routines.

The campaign positions posture as part of what LUX calls “Main Character Beauty”, a concept linking physical presence with confidence and self-image.

By encouraging users to maintain better posture habits, the brand says it hopes to help individuals “lift their chin” both literally and figuratively, reinforcing a more confident and expressive presence in everyday life.

The Chin Up tool is now available via LUX’s website and is being promoted across multiple digital platforms as part of a wider global rollout.
