Liquid Connects 45 Schools in South Africa to Free Internet

Liquid Intelligent Technologies has provided free internet connectivity to 45 public schools in KwaZulu-Natal, expanding digital access for learners and educators in South Africa.

The rollout, announced in Johannesburg on 14 April 2026, covers schools in Umlazi and Pinetown and forms part of a broader national programme aimed at bridging the digital divide.

Each school has been equipped with internet speeds of at least 10 Mbps and a 500GB fair use limit, enabling access to online learning platforms, educational content and communication tools throughout the school day.

Chief Executive Officer of Cassava Technologies in South Africa and Botswana, Ziaad Suleman, said the initiative goes beyond connectivity.

“By connecting schools, we are opening doors to opportunity, equipping learners to compete in a digital world and strengthening communities through inclusive education,” he said.

For many of the schools, the initiative marks their first opportunity to integrate digital learning into classrooms. Learners can now access global educational resources, while teachers benefit from tools that enhance lesson delivery, streamline administration and improve communication.

The project has now reached 65 per cent completion under Liquid’s wider plan to connect 298 public service institutions across the country. To date, 194 facilities, including schools, healthcare centres, libraries and traditional authority offices, have been connected.

Liquid Intelligent Technologies has committed to maintaining and securing the connectivity infrastructure as part of the long-term programme, which is scheduled to continue until 2029.

The company says the initiative is helping to strengthen South Africa’s education system and support the development of a digitally inclusive society, ensuring that learners are better prepared for participation in the modern digital economy.
