Czech Republic Shows Interest in Zambia’s Agriculture Industry

The Czech Republic has expressed strong interest in expanding investment in Zambia’s agriculture, livestock and fisheries sectors, following a high-level engagement held today at Mulungushi House in Lusaka.

Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, Hon. Eng. Peter Kapala, joined Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Reuben Mtolo, to receive the Czech Ambassador to Zambia, His Excellency Jiri Kyrian, who was accompanied by a business delegation from the Czech Agricultural and Forestry Machinery Association (AZET).

The delegation represents seven leading companies specialising in modern agricultural equipment and advanced technologies.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and identifying new areas for partnership across Zambia’s agricultural value chains. The visit highlighted the Czech Republic’s commitment to long-term investment, particularly in livestock development and fisheries enhancement.

Hon. Kapala urged the delegation to prioritise collaboration in the livestock sector, noting Zambia’s ambition to increase its national cattle population, improve disease control systems, and modernise livestock management.

He encouraged Czech companies to explore opportunities in research, innovation, and value chain development to support sector-wide transformation.

Ambassador Kyrian reaffirmed his country’s dedication to supporting Zambia’s agricultural agenda, citing the Czech-funded ZAMAGRO Project (2025–2027) as a key vehicle for expanding cooperation.

He noted that Czech companies are eager to pursue joint ventures, technology transfer, equipment supply, and capacity-building initiatives tailored to Zambia’s needs.

Both ministers reiterated the government’s readiness to facilitate partnerships that promote innovation, enhance productivity, and improve access to reliable agricultural mechanisation for farmers across the country.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening Zambia’s agriculture and livestock sectors through targeted Czech investment and sustained technical collaboration.
