PS Kaoma Urges Early Screening for Lifesaving Detection

The Ministry of Finance and National Planning has reaffirmed its solidarity with breast cancer survivors, patients, and families as Zambia joins the global observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In a statement delivered in Lusaka, Ms Prudence Kaoma, Permanent Secretary for Planning and Administration, said the Ministry stands united with all Zambians affected by cancer, describing their journeys as profound testaments of courage, resilience, and hope.

“Behind every diagnosis lies a story of courage, of individuals who have faced fear with faith, pain with perseverance, and uncertainty with unyielding hope,” Ms Kaoma said. “To our colleagues within the Ministry and to families across Zambia who have walked this difficult path, we salute your resilience and celebrate your triumphs.”

Ms Kaoma noted that Breast Cancer Awareness Month serves as a powerful reminder of the life-saving importance of early detection and the strength of compassion and community in overcoming the disease.

She reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to fostering healthy and supportive workplaces that uphold wellness and human dignity, adding that collective solidarity remains vital in inspiring hope and healing across the country.

“Together, we honour the survivors, remember those we have lost, and stand firm in hope for a future free from cancer,” she stated.

The Permanent Secretary further encouraged citizens and employees to prioritise regular cancer screening and health check-ups, stressing that early detection greatly improves survival outcomes.

“Timely testing allows for simpler medical interventions, reduces recovery time, and offers the best chance of successful treatment. By taking proactive steps, we help build a healthier, more resilient nation where every life is valued and protected,” she added.
