Zambia’s Finance Minister Arrives in Belgium for Global Gateway Forum

Zambia’s Minister of Finance and National Planning, Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, has arrived in Brussels, Belgium, ahead of the second edition of the Global Gateway Forum, set to take place from 9–10 October 2025 at the Square Mont des Arts.

Dr Musokotwane, who travelled with a lean delegation, was received at Brussels Airport by Zambia’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, and Ambassador-designate to the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Permanent Representative to the European Union (EU), Ms Mary Chirwa, alongside her diplomatic team.

This year’s Forum, held under the theme “Connectivity and Investments”, seeks to strengthen global cooperation and promote infrastructure development in the face of evolving geopolitical and economic challenges. The event will also feature an exhibition showcasing flagship Global Gateway projects.

During his stay, Dr Musokotwane is expected to hold several high-level meetings, including bilateral discussions with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) and engagements with EU investors from the Chambers of Commerce Belgium and Luxembourg (CBLACP), arranged through the Zambian Mission.

In addition, he will witness a symbolic signing ceremony marking Zambia’s participation in the Lobito Corridor initiative, a strategic project aimed at enhancing regional trade and connectivity.

Following his arrival, Ambassador Chirwa hosted Dr Musokotwane and his delegation at the Zambian Chancery for a Roundtable Strategy Dialogue focused on strengthening Zambia–EU economic cooperation.

This was in a statement issued by Aswell K. Mwalimu, First Secretary – Press, Embassy of the Republic of Zambia, Brussels.
