AfDB Empowers Congolese Businesses Ahead of 2026 Annual Meetings
More than 100 local companies in the Republic of Congo have received training on the African Development Bank’s (AfDB) procurement procedures, equipping them to seize business opportunities ahead of the Bank Group’s Annual Meetings in Brazzaville in May 2026.
The information and awareness seminar, held on 24 September 2025, familiarised participants with AfDB rules, contract management procedures, and supplier registration processes. It also provided an opportunity for the Bank to gather feedback from local stakeholders to improve procedures and tailor them to the country context.
Olivier Beguy, Country Economist at the AfDB Liaison Office in Congo, speaking on behalf of the Bank’s Director-General for Central Africa, Léandre Bassolé, said: “The seminar aims to prepare Congolese companies for contract opportunities with the Bank, both for the Annual Meetings and future projects.”
In his opening remarks, Ludovic Ngatsé, Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Integration and AfDB Governor for Congo, stressed the potential for local firms to secure a greater share of Bank contracts.
Following the seminar, over 100 companies across various sectors were added to the Bank’s supplier database, positioning them for upcoming service procurement contracts. Marcelle Akposso, Head of AfDB’s Institutional Procurement Division, noted that the quality and expertise of the companies would ensure competent suppliers for the Annual Meetings, where demand for services is expected to be high.
Since 197, the AfDB has financed projects in the Republic of Congo totalling $1.27 billion. As of June 2025, the Bank had nine active sovereign operations in the country, valued at approximately $223.3 million.
