Zambia Invites Chinese Investors to Explore Agricultural Opportunities

Zambia’s Ambassador to China, His Excellency Mr. Ivan Zyuulu, has urged Chinese investors to seize investment opportunities in Zambia’s agriculture sector, highlighting the country’s commitment to food security, job creation, and economic growth.

Speaking during a Technical Seminar on Academic Exchanges in Beijing, hosted by Zhongnong Changfa Beijing Agricultural Technology Company Limited, Ambassador Zyuulu emphasized Zambia’s readiness to partner with Chinese enterprises in advancing smart farming solutions and agro-processing initiatives.

“Zambia has made agriculture a top priority, as reflected in our Agriculture Strategic Plan (2022–2026) and the Comprehensive Agriculture Transformation Support Programme (CATSP),” the Ambassador said. “We’ve reserved 100,000 hectares per province specifically for agriculture and agro-processing, and we welcome investors to take advantage of this opportunity.”

He commended Zhongnong Changfa for its contributions to agricultural innovation, particularly in seed and crop technology, agro-machinery, and smart farming, which he said have strong potential to transform Zambia’s farming landscape.

The Ambassador highlighted agro-processing as a key pillar in Zambia’s Industrial Policy and its Eighth National Development Plan, citing its importance in enhancing value addition and generating foreign exchange.

The seminar brought together experts from China and beyond to discuss innovations in seed development, disease resistance, cost-effective production, and climate adaptation. Ambassador Zyuulu emphasized that enhanced collaboration in seed regulation, inspection, and certification could help Zambian farmers meet international standards, boosting export potential and agricultural resilience.

He urged participants to use the forum to strengthen bilateral ties beyond agriculture, encouraging knowledge exchange and long-term cooperation in quality seed production and broader development areas.

“Let us use the insights, experience, and networks formed at this seminar to deepen Zambia-China cooperation in agriculture and beyond,” he concluded.
