Zambia’s Mining Sector Faces Temporary Disruptions as ZIMIS Experiences Technical Challenges

The Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development has announced that the newly launched Zambia Integrated Mining Information System (ZIMIS) is experiencing technical challenges, temporarily affecting service delivery in the mining sector.

In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Principal Public Relations Officer, Shamwinda Tembo, the public, particularly mining stakeholders, was informed that the system encountered glitches following its launch and user acceptance testing.

In response, the Ministry has established a dedicated troubleshooting team, comprising both system users and clients, to resolve the issues and ensure ZIMIS operates effectively in real-time environments.

A major concern for stakeholders has been the requirement for authorized user registration for both individuals and corporate entities. This process, which mandates granting Power of Attorney to authorized representatives, aims to protect client interests and link representatives to all licenses held by respective entities.

The Ministry assured clients that the review process will allow seamless access to services provided by the Mining Cadastre Department. These services include applications for mining and non-mining rights, payment of area charges, and submission of statutory reports on an end-to-end basis.

For those facing payment and report submission difficulties through the Zamportal platform, the Ministry has provided an alternative. Payments can be made directly into the Ministry’s Revenue Transit Account, with proof of payment presented to the Mining Cadastre Department for the issuance of Government Receipts (GRZ). Additionally, statutory reports can be submitted both electronically and in hard copy to the relevant departments.

Importantly, the Ministry assured that no licenses will be affected during the transition from the previous Trimble Land Folio System to ZIMIS. All existing licenses will remain active.

The Ministry has encouraged stakeholders to provide feedback on any challenges faced while accessing ZIMIS services. Feedback can be submitted via email to mining.cadastre@mmmd.gov.zm or through the help desk at +260 954 652201 for technical support.

The Ministry expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the technical glitches and pledged to keep the public updated on developments regarding ZIMIS.
