Africa Energy Indaba 2025 to Unlock Gas Reserves Through the Africa Gas Forum

Africa’s energy sector is undergoing a significant transformation, with natural gas emerging as a key driver for economic growth and energy security. The upcoming Africa Energy Indaba 2025, scheduled for 4–6 March 2025 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, will feature the Africa Gas Forum, a premier platform aimed at addressing the continent’s vast gas potential, challenges, and investment opportunities.

The Africa Gas Forum will convene industry leaders, policymakers, investors, and technical experts to explore the continent’s largely untapped gas reserves. Key focus areas will include the promising offshore developments in Namibia and South Africa’s Orange Basin, along with onshore opportunities in Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Discussions will center on strategies to harness these resources for sustainable development and economic advancement.

Key Highlights of the Africa Gas Forum:

-Exploration and Production Opportunities: Africa remains underexplored in terms of natural gas potential. The Forum will spotlight major basins, such as the Orange Basin, and emerging reserves in Zimbabwe and onshore Namibia, positioning them as critical to meeting both local and international energy needs.

-Overcoming Gas Monetisation Challenges: Experts will tackle key barriers, including infrastructure gaps, regulatory constraints, and financing hurdles. Discussions will highlight solutions such as developing LNG export facilities and enhancing regional energy trade to maximise gas monetisation.

-Case Studies of Success: Attendees will gain insights from successful gas projects in Mozambique, Egypt, and Nigeria, showcasing how strategic policies and investments have unlocked gas resources for economic and environmental benefits.

With over 620 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves, Africa accounts for around 7% of the world’s total reserves. As global demand for cleaner energy sources grows, Africa’s gas production is projected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4% through 2030, solidifying its position as a key player in the global energy market.

Liz Hart, Managing Director of the Africa Energy Indaba, highlighted the significance of the Forum, stating, “The Africa Gas Forum provides a dedicated space to explore the vast opportunities in Africa’s gas sector. It is a vital step toward unlocking the full potential of these resources to power sustainable development and economic transformation across the continent.”

Industry stakeholders, investors, and policymakers are encouraged to participate in the Africa Energy Indaba 2025 and the Africa Gas Forum to engage in critical discussions and drive actionable solutions for the future of Africa’s gas sector.
