ZAMMSA Ensures Sustained Availability of Medicines and Medical Supplies Across Zambia

The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has announced the availability of essential medicines and medical supplies throughout the country.

From January to November 2024, ZAMMSA maintained an impressive availability rate of 70%, meeting the World Health Organization’s recommended threshold.

This achievement underscores ZAMMSA’s commitment to providing consistent access to vital healthcare commodities. Currently, essential items such as HIV Test Kits boast a 100% availability rate, hematology supplies stand at 84%, and Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) are at 67%.

ZAMMSA has also shipped supplies to 98 of its 107 distribution routes, successfully delivering to 92% of health facilities nationwide within the current distribution cycle. Health facilities are reporting an average availability rate of 80%, significantly enhancing healthcare delivery across Zambia.

Bradley Chingobe, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at ZAMMSA, highlighted the importance of these achievements, particularly as the rainy season approaches.

He emphasized ZAMMSA’s proactive measures to overcome logistical challenges and ensure uninterrupted access to medical supplies, even in the country’s most remote areas.

“Our commitment remains unwavering,” Chingobe said. “By maintaining a steady supply of essential medicines and medical supplies, we are improving patient outcomes, reducing wait times, and strengthening healthcare delivery nationwide.”
