PM Abiy Champions Global Vision for Zero Hunger at World Without Hunger Conference
Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed underscored the urgent need for a unified global response to achieve zero hunger, speaking at the closing of the World Without Hunger Conference at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum.
Over 1,500 attendees, including global leaders, UN agencies, NGOs, and financial institutions, convened for this landmark three-day event focused on “Global Action Against Hunger.”
Highlighting the importance of sustainable and resilient food systems, PM Abiy called hunger eradication a “moral imperative.” He emphasized climate-adaptive practices, sustainable farming, and improved market access to support smallholder farmers, whom he described as central to global food security.
Ethiopia’s initiatives, including the Ethiopian Green Legacy which saw the planting of over 40 billion trees, exemplify the nation’s commitment to climate resilience.
PM Abiy introduced Ethiopia’s “Made in Ethiopia” initiative and agro-industrial parks as models for food security, job creation, and economic stability. The conference acknowledged the need for substantial investment and strategic partnerships, including the establishment of a global food security fund to finance climate-resilient infrastructure and agricultural technologies.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of cross-border knowledge exchange and policy alignment across nations to ensure equitable food distribution and fair market access.
Addressing smallholder farmers, especially women, he advocated for expanded market access, inclusive financing, and capacity building.
Calling on governments, development banks, and the private sector to mobilize and collaborate, Abiy emphasized integrating technology, fostering innovation, and building climate resilience as central to achieving global food security.
He concluded by urging attendees to translate these commitments into actionable steps toward a hunger-free world.
The conference was co-organized by the UNIDO, AU Commission, and Ethiopian Government, with support from FAO, marking a significant step towards global food security.
