Zambia and Japan Strengthen Cooperation in Key Economic Sectors
Zambia’s Ambassador to Japan, Dr. Tobias Mulimbika, has praised the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for its steadfast support in enhancing Zambia’s priority sectors.
During a recent courtesy call on JICA Executive Vice President Ms. Katsura Miyazaki in Tokyo, Dr. Mulimbika highlighted ongoing cooperation in health, agriculture, water, sanitation, and infrastructure between Zambia and Japan.
Dr. Mulimbika expressed gratitude for JICA President Dr. Tanaka Akihiko’s recent visit to Zambia, where he met with President Hakainde Hichilema and key ministers. The discussions focused on collaborative efforts to advance infrastructure projects, improve healthcare facilities, and bolster water and sanitation systems in Zambia.
“Following the productive meeting with President Hichilema, Zambia looks forward to implementing joint development programs and seeks continued support from JICA to achieve our shared goals,” Dr. Mulimbika stated.
He also commended JICA for developing a checklist of priority projects for Zambia, emphasizing the importance of clear project outlines to monitor implementation effectively. The identified projects span infrastructure development, technological advancements, health, energy, agriculture, and water harvesting.
During the meeting, Dr. Mulimbika reiterated Zambia’s request for JICA’s assistance in constructing the Luangwa Bridge, highlighting its significance in enhancing connectivity and economic development in the region.
In response, JICA Executive Vice President Ms. Katsura Miyazaki reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Zambia’s economic agenda. She underscored Zambia’s importance as a key development partner for Japan and expressed JICA’s readiness to strengthen bilateral relations further through impactful projects that benefit the Zambian people.
The ongoing collaboration between Zambia and Japan underscores a strategic partnership aimed at fostering sustainable development and addressing key challenges facing Zambia’s economic growth.
