GIZ Donates ICT Equipment to Ministry of Community Development and Social Services
The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services (MCDSS) has received a significant donation of ICT equipment from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). This donation is part of the Enabling Access to Justice, Civil Society Participation, and Transparency (EnACT) initiative.
The donated equipment includes 2 servers, 22 tablets, 14 laptops with bags, 4 desktop computers, and 2 heavy-duty all-in-one machines (scanner, printer, and photocopier) designated for the Department of Registrar of NGOs. This marks a substantial advancement in the Ministry’s efforts to enhance technological capabilities and improve service delivery.
Permanent Secretary Ms. Angela Kawandami, who received the equipment, expressed profound gratitude for GIZ’s technical support.
She highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring effective management of NGO operations in Zambia. Currently, the Ministry uses a manual system for NGO registration and compliance regulation, which is both inefficient and costly.
“The donated ICT equipment is expected to streamline operations within the Ministry, enabling better data management, communication, and overall NGO registration and information management,” Ms. Kawandami said.
She also thanked GIZ for supporting the development of an online NGO registration and information-sharing system, which is set to replace the current manual processes.
GIZ representative Ms. Promita Sengupta reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting the Ministry’s initiatives.
She emphasized that digitalization is a core area of focus for GIZ, hence their continued partnership in developing a system that will enhance service delivery efficiency and promote transparency in NGO management.
Ms. Sengupta announced that GIZ looks forward to the official launch of the E-Registration system, which is envisioned for September after the completion of all testing.
