Zambia Government Completes Drafting of Artificial Intelligence Strategy
The Zambian government has finalized the drafting of a comprehensive Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategy aimed at leveraging the latest technological advancements for national development.
Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati announced that the AI strategy is set to be launched within the next two months.
Speaking at a side event during the Copperbelt Agricultural Mining Industrial Networking Enterprise (CAMINEX) in Kitwe, Mr. Mutati highlighted the significant potential of AI to propel Zambia towards its goal of producing three million tonnes of copper annually.
He emphasized that AI would enhance exploration efforts and bring substantial economic benefits to the country.
Mr. Mutati outlined that AI is expected to create alternative employment opportunities and accelerate mineral exploration processes.
With the rollout of fifth-generation (5G) network technology, AI’s impact will be even more profound, enabling the provision of more services and boosting overall productivity.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Technology and Science is set to host an Artificial Intelligence Conference next month.
This event aims to prepare the nation for an AI-driven future and alleviate fears regarding job displacement.
Mr. Mutati reassured that AI is here to stay and should be embraced rather than feared.
Dr. Larry Mweetwa, Acting Director for Technology and Science in the Ministry, announced that stakeholder consultations on the AI strategy would commence soon. The government seeks industry input to maximize the benefits of AI.
Additionally, the Ministry is actively training its staff in AI to ensure readiness and effective implementation of the strategy.
