Zambia Wins 16 Medals at IMMAF Africa Championships in Angola
Team Zambia has delivered a strong performance at the IMMAF Africa Championships in Luanda, securing 16 medals and reinforcing the country’s growing presence in mixed martial arts.
The team, made up of 20 athletes, won four gold, five silver and seven bronze medals, with only four competitors missing out on podium finishes.
Zambia’s gold medallists included Portus Chama, Mutinta Mweene, Chomba Mwandila and junior athlete Alex Bwalya. Silver medals were won by Tryson Mubanga, Danny Chiluba, Richard Mwanza, Ernest Kazangaza and Justin Mweene, while bronze medallists included Farai Ganizani, James Mukwamba, Zanaida Nanyinza, Gift Tembo, Abraham Banda, Perfecto Chanda and Chipego Simukuwa.
Zambia’s Ambassador to Angola, Elias Munshya, congratulated the team, describing the achievement as a reflection of discipline, resilience and national pride.
“Team Zambia has made the nation proud. Securing 16 medals out of a team of 20 athletes is no small achievement,” he said, commending the athletes, coaches and officials for representing the country with distinction.
The Zambian Embassy in Luanda was represented at the finals by Second Secretary Precious Mudenda, who conveyed support and encouragement to the athletes on behalf of the mission.
The embassy also expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Angola for successfully hosting the championship and for the hospitality extended to the Zambian delegation.
With 80 per cent of the team finishing on the podium, the results highlight Zambia’s rising profile in the sport and the continued development of mixed martial arts in the country.
