New Maamba Immigration Office to Improve Services and Support Zambia’s Energy Sector
Maamba Energy has officially handed over a newly constructed immigration office to the Department of Immigration in Maamba, a development expected to enhance public service delivery and support the growth of Zambia’s energy sector.
The new office will reduce travel distances, shorten processing times, and simplify immigration procedures for residents of Maamba and surrounding areas. It will also provide essential support to employees and international experts involved in Maamba Energy’s existing operations, the 300MW Phase II expansion, and the 100MW solar power plant.
Officiating at the handover, Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Hon. Jack Mwiimbu, said the facility reflects the government’s commitment to decentralising services while fostering a secure and business-friendly environment.
“This office is part of our broader effort to modernise immigration services. By bringing services closer to communities and businesses, we are supporting investment, skills transfer, and overall development,” Hon. Mwiimbu said.
Maamba Energy CEO, Lt. Col Cyrus Minwalla (Retd), emphasised the office’s role in facilitating collaboration with international partners. “Having immigration services on site allows our employees and partners to focus on delivering projects efficiently, supporting Zambia’s energy security, and advancing cleaner technologies,” he explained.
The Director General of Immigration, Dr Japhet M. Lishomwa, described the office as a practical step toward improved migration management, security, and service delivery, benefiting investment, trade, and tourism.
The commissioning highlights the growing public-private partnership, with Maamba Energy funding the construction and refurbishment of the facility. The presence of local immigration services is expected to accelerate project delivery and strengthen Maamba’s position as a hub for energy investment and international collaboration.
