Zambia Endorses Amman-Berlin Declaration on Disability Inclusion

The Zambian government has officially endorsed the Amman-Berlin Declaration on Disability Inclusion, reaffirming its commitment to amplifying the voices of persons with disabilities in national development.

The declaration calls for at least 15% of all international development programs implemented at the national level to actively pursue disability inclusion as a core objective.

Zambia’s endorsement was made at the 3rd Global Disability Summit (GDS) in Berlin, where the country’s delegation is led by Ambassador Winnie Natala Chibesakunda, alongside Mr. Nelson Nyangu, Director for Social Welfare at the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, among others.

As part of its commitment, Zambia presented its national position on the strides made in disability inclusion and submitted its 2025 commitments, aimed at ensuring that persons with disabilities lead dignified, inclusive lives.

Ambassador Chibesakunda and the Zambian delegation also took part in a high-level meeting of the Global Disability Fund, where discussions focused on ensuring that development initiatives under the fund directly impact persons with disabilities and enhance their role in decision-making processes.

The Global Disability Summit is a key platform dedicated to bridging the gap between disability inclusion and international development cooperation.

In her remarks, Ambassador Chibesakunda reiterated Zambia’s unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive society that safeguards and promotes the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at all levels of national development.
