Zambia Sugar Announces 12% Salary Increase for Employees
Zambia Sugar has announced a 12% wage increase for its employees, coupled with an upward adjustment to allowances, following a successful collective bargaining agreement.
The agreement, effective from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2027, was reached in collaboration with key workers’ unions, including the Zambia Sugar Allied Workers Union (ZUSIAW), the National Union of Plantation and Agricultural Workers (NUPAAW), and the Agriculture Technical and Professional Staff Union of Zambia (ATPTU).
Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the company’s headquarters in Mazabuka, Zambia Sugar Managing Director Oswald Magwenzi highlighted that the agreement reflects the company’s commitment to balancing business sustainability with employee welfare.
He emphasized that negotiations focused on ensuring long-term stability while recognizing the dedication and contribution of employees to the company’s success.
“This agreement represents a shared commitment to the future success of Zambia Sugar,” Magwenzi stated. “By working together, we have secured a balanced outcome that benefits both our employees and the institution.”
Union representatives from ZUSIAW, NUPAAW, and ATPTU expressed their satisfaction with the agreement, describing it as a major step towards improving workers’ well-being in the sugar industry.
The signing ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including Sitali Muyunda, Chairperson of the Bargaining Unit at the Zambia Federation of Employers, Mazabuka District Labour Officer Taziona Simunika, and members of the Zambia Sugar Nakambala Leadership Team (NLT).
