Zambia Secures $120 Million World Bank Funding to Accelerate Digital Transformation

Zambia has obtained $120 million in funding from the World Bank’s Digital Development Partnership to advance its Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) agenda, Minister of Science and Technology Felix Mutati announced.

Speaking in Washington, D.C., during the Global Digital Summit, Mutati emphasized that the funds will boost AI development, connectivity expansion, and digital skills training.

The financial support will complement Zambia’s Digital Zambia Acceleration Project (DZAP), which previously received $100 million from the World Bank to build a robust digital ecosystem for public service delivery.

Mutati stressed the vital role of the private sector in Zambia’s digital transformation, stating that removing import duty on digital infrastructure will enhance connectivity and generate more revenue.

Currently in the “strategy and design” phase of DPI implementation, Zambia has joined the 50-in-5 campaign, a global initiative promoting secure and interoperable digital systems.

With these developments, Zambia is positioning itself as a leader in digital innovation, ensuring its economy remains competitive and inclusive in the digital era.
