NOCZ Presents “Our Story Since 1964” to Sports Minister Hon. Elvis C. Nkandu
The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has made a significant contribution to preserving Zambia’s sporting heritage by presenting a book titled “Our Story Since 1964” to the Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Hon. Elvis C. Nkandu.
The book, authored to document the success stories and the genesis of the Olympic Movement in Zambia, provides an in-depth narrative of the country’s sporting journey since independence.
It will officially be launched on January 24, 2025, and highlights key moments, achievements, and personalities who have played pivotal roles in the development of sports in Zambia and Africa as a whole.
NOCZ President Mr. Alfred Foloko, accompanied by Secretary General Mr. Boniface Kambikambi and other NOCZ officials, presented the book to Hon. Nkandu at his office today.
The Minister has commended the NOCZ for this initiative, describing it as an essential step in preserving Zambia’s sporting legacy for future generations.
“This book will serve as a critical resource for our young people to understand where we, as a nation, are coming from in the world of sports. It reflects not just our achievements but the journey of hard work, dedication, and the passion of our athletes and administrators over the decades,” Hon. Nkandu said.
The publication also profiles influential figures in Zambian sports, highlighting their contributions to the growth of various disciplines within the country and on the international stage.
In addition to the book presentation, Hon. Nkandu took the opportunity to congratulate Mr. Foloko on his recent re-election as Vice President of the African Judo Union.
The Minister hailed the achievement as a testament to Zambia’s growing influence in global sports administration and encouraged other sports leaders to aspire for similar roles.
“Mr. Foloko’s re-election is not just a personal achievement but a source of pride for the entire nation. It should serve as inspiration for other Zambian sports administrators to aim for leadership positions in international organizations,” Hon. Nkandu stated.
The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to working closely with organizations like the NOCZ to promote sports development and ensure that Zambia continues to shine on the global stage.
