Zambian Breweries Launches Motorbike Safety Training to Curb Lusaka Road Accidents

Zambian Breweries, in partnership with the Zambia Road Safety Trust (ZRST), Yango, and other stakeholders, has launched the Motorbike Safety Training Programme, a pioneering effort to reduce motorbike-related accidents in Lusaka.

With road incidents involving motorbikes increasing, this initiative aims to train riders in defensive driving, proper safety gear use, and essential road safety practices.

In addition to training, an extensive awareness campaign will promote a shared sense of responsibility for road safety across Lusaka.

Speaking on the initiative, Zambian Breweries’ Legal Corporate Affairs Director, Tawanda Hojane, emphasized the company’s commitment to community welfare: “By training riders and launching awareness campaigns, we aim to create a culture of responsibility on our roads.”

According to the Road Transport and Safety Agency, motorbike accidents accounted for over 20% of all road incidents in 2023. In the first half of 2024 alone, motorbike crashes rose to 1,113, highlighting the urgent need for safety measures.

“This training programme is essential,” noted RTSA Board Chairman Engineer Allen Mate, who hopes the initiative will foster a lasting safety culture for riders in Zambia.

ZRST CEO Daniel Mwamba shared his organization’s inclusive safety vision, stressing that all road users should benefit from safer roads.

Yango’s Commerce Manager, Moono Malundu, added that Yango will supply safety kits for riders, emphasizing the company’s commitment to reducing accidents through proper training and equipment.

With the festive season approaching—a period that sees a rise in road accidents—Zambian Breweries and its partners are committed to making Zambia’s roads safer for all.
