Zambia to Host Third LDC Forum in 2025, Says Foreign Affairs Minister
Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P, held a bilateral meeting with Ms. Rabab Fatimah, the United Nations High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), during the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The discussions focused on Zambia’s hosting of the Third LDC Forum in 2025 and Zambia’s involvement in the LLDC Forum to be held in Botswana in December 2024.
Hon. Haimbe expressed gratitude to the UN for granting Zambia the opportunity to host the LDC Forum, recognizing its significance for addressing the challenges faced by Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs).
Ms. Fatimah emphasized that Zambia’s vulnerabilities as both a landlocked and least developed nation make such forums crucial for addressing developmental challenges.
The UN-OHRLLS supports 92 vulnerable developing nations, including 45 LDCs, 32 LLDCs, and 39 Small Island Developing States. Zambia’s participation in these forums is expected to enhance dialogue on addressing these nations’ unique challenges.
The Minister was joined by senior government officials in the meeting.
