Zambia Celebrates Successful Negotiation of the Global Digital Compact
Hon. Felix Mutati, Zambia’s Minister of Technology and Science, has been commended for his pivotal role in negotiating the Global Digital Compact (GDC), which was officially adopted during the Summit of the Future by the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
This achievement, co-facilitated by Dr. Chola Milambo, Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, alongside Sweden, marks a significant milestone for Zambia on the global stage.
At a roundtable event titled “Global Digital Compact – Aspiration to Action,” Hon. Mutati emphasized the transformative potential of digital technologies in accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in an increasingly interconnected world.
“The successful negotiations of the GDC represent a critical step forward for our country, demonstrating Zambia’s commitment to harnessing digital innovation for sustainable development,” he stated.
During the event, Hon. Mutati highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts, strategic partnerships, and a shared vision to effectively advance the SDGs. He noted that Africa has made remarkable strides in recent years, particularly in digital infrastructure, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The roundtable featured notable participants, including Google Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai, who engaged in discussions about the implications and opportunities presented by the GDC.
Hon. Mutati was accompanied by Hon. Charles Milupi, Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, further emphasizing the Zambian government’s commitment to leveraging technology for national development.
