ZIAMIS Enhances Agricultural Service Delivery in Zambia
The Zambia Integrated Agricultural Management Information System (ZIAMIS), launched by the Electronic Government Division (SMART Zambia Institute), has transformed the agricultural sector by improving service delivery under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).
ZIAMIS, a centralized platform for farmer registration, agro-dealer accreditation, and data management, has boosted efficiency within the Ministry of Agriculture, enabling real-time monitoring and decision-making.
As a result, 779 agro-dealers have been accredited across Zambia, ensuring greater access to agricultural inputs. Furthermore, over 350,000 farmers have successfully registered on the platform, expanding the reach of the FISP program.
Speaking during an interview, Director of ICT Mr. James Kalengo noted that ZIAMIS has improved the accuracy of agro-dealer assessments and helped eliminate fraudulent entries from the FISP database.
He confirmed that over 650,000 ineligible farmers were removed from the FISP register following a thorough review.
Farmers omitted from the FISP register can visit district Ministry of Agriculture offices to present their details. Additionally, inputs are readily available for farmers to redeem through the e-voucher system starting on September 16, 2024.
Mr. Kalengo urged farmers to work only with ZIAMIS-accredited dealers and not to share their PINs.
With ZIAMIS, the Ministry of Agriculture expects to improve food security and agricultural productivity across the country, benefiting farmers and the broader economy.
