Team Zambia Arrives in Paris with High Hopes for the 2024 Olympic Games
The final batch of Team Zambia athletes has arrived in Paris, France, with a clear goal: to make a significant impact at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, set to run from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
Upon arrival at Charles de Gaulle Airport, swimmer Damien Shamambo expressed the team’s readiness and commitment to securing medals.
“We have done a lot of training leading up to this, and we are more than ready to give it 100 percent on what we came here to do, which is to win or bring back the results that the country would like to see,” Shamambo declared with confidence.
Zambia’s Ambassador to France, Her Excellency Ms. Judith Mulenga, highlighted the Olympic Games as a powerful platform for promoting global peace and unity.
“There is nothing better than the Olympic Games to promote peace, security, and stability, which is a cornerstone of Zambia’s foreign policy,” Ambassador Mulenga stated.
She emphasized the universal equality represented in sports, regardless of race or nationality.
Ambassador Mulenga, accompanied by Embassy Counsellor Mr. Chrissy Hilweele, encouraged the athletes to aim for gold and assured them of the Mission’s support. She also provided tips on basic French etiquette to ensure a smooth stay in Paris.
Zambia National Athletics team Head Coach Douglas Kalembo voiced his confidence in the team’s preparation and prospects. “As Zambia Athletics, we have performed well this year. We are here not just to participate but to compete and win medals,” Kalembo said, noting that the team is currently ranked third in the world.
Team Zambia Press Attaché Felix Munyika reinforced the athletes’ dedication to achieving remarkable results. “We are striving to make history after 27 years since winning an Olympic medal at the Atlanta 1996 Games. We are confident that the medal is surely coming,” Munyika assured.
The athletes who have arrived in Paris include Simon Zulu, Patrick Nyambe, Muzala Samukonga, David Mulenga, Sitali Kakene, Thomson Mbewe, Kennedy Luchembe, Mia Phiri, Margret Tembo, and Damien Shamambo.
