ZAMMSA Ready for Possible COVID-19 Outbreak Amid Case Surge
Following a recent announcement by Health Minister Sylvia Masebo about a slight rise in COVID-19 cases, the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has reassured the public that it is well-prepared to handle any potential outbreak.
ZAMMSA currently holds ample stocks of essential health supplies, including medicines, surgical products, laboratory items, and personal protective equipment (PPE) such as facemasks and coveralls. The agency also has medicines for pain and palliative care.
Minister Masebo noted an increase in the weekly COVID-19 positivity rate in Zambia over recent weeks.
In response to this development, ZAMMSA is actively procuring additional medical supplies to ensure an uninterrupted flow of essential commodities necessary for effective epidemic control.
Bradley Chingobe, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at ZAMMSA, emphasized the importance of seeking medical help if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
“We have adequate supplies available to support all treatment efforts,” he said.
ZAMMSA has provided a detailed list of available products to major health facilities across the country, urging them to place orders promptly to replenish their stocks.
Mr. Chingobe said that the agency remains dedicated to supporting national health efforts and will continue working closely with stakeholders to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 in Zambia.
