Zambia and China Forge Landmark Tourism Deal
Zambia has embarked on a strategic collaboration with China to bolster its tourism industry, taking advantage of China’s vast population and its potential as a significant tourism market.
Tourism Minister Rodney Sikumba announced the partnership, which aims to designate 2024 as the year of tourism and culture for both nations.
Minister Sikumba made the announcement following a tour of Lusaka National Park with the visiting Chinese Minister of Veterans Affairs, Pei Jinjia.
The two countries have agreed on several initiatives to promote tourism, including waivers to encourage more Chinese tourists to visit Zambia. Plans are underway to establish direct flights between China and Zambia and to remove visa restrictions for Chinese visitors.
“China’s vast population provides a huge tourism market for Zambia, and this partnership will help us tap into that potential,” Sikumba stated.
He emphasized the importance of improving service delivery in the hospitality sector to meet the anticipated demand from increased tourist inflows.
In addition to boosting tourist numbers, China has committed to assisting Zambia with infrastructure development in the tourism sector. This support is expected to enhance Zambia’s capacity to accommodate and attract more tourists.
Minister Pei Jinjia concluded his four-day visit to Zambia today, solidifying the commitment of both nations to this landmark tourism deal.
