Air Cargo Malawi and Malawi Defence Force Forge Partnership to Boost Trade
Air Cargo Malawi Limited (ACM) and the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to charter aircraft for cargo transportation, a move set to enhance ACM’s capabilities and contribute to Malawi’s economic growth.
The partnership will enable ACM to transport specialised cargo consignments between Malawi, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and East Africa, facilitating seamless logistics for exporters and importers. This agreement is a significant milestone in ACM’s turnaround strategy.
The MOU signing ceremony saw the attendance of key representatives from both entities, including ACM Chairman Felix Tandwe, Chief Executive Officer Thokozani Unyolo, and MDF Commander General Paul Valentino Phiri.
“This partnership is a testament to our commitment to providing reliable and efficient air cargo services,” said Tandwe. “We are proud to work with the Malawi Defence Force to enhance our services and contribute to the country’s economic development.”
Unyolo highlighted that the MOU opens new opportunities for exporting specialised cargo such as cut flowers and other horticultural products to Africa and beyond.
General Phiri expressed his satisfaction with the partnership, stating, “We are pleased to partner with Air Cargo Malawi Limited, demonstrating our commitment to supporting the country’s economic growth and development.”
He added that the charters would maximise the use of MDF planes, generating additional revenue for the aviation department.
This collaboration is expected to boost trade and economic development in the region, aligning with the Malawi 2063 vision.
