Sikazwe Off to Doha for FIFA VAR Instructors’ Course
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has dispatched esteemed referee Janny Sikazwe to Doha, Qatar, to participate in a prestigious FIFA VAR instructors’ course.
This move is part of FAZ’s strategic initiative to enhance the skills of its officials and align with the latest advancements in football technology.
Sikazwe, a two-time FIFA World Cup referee, brings a wealth of experience to the table. His notable appearances include the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
In Doha, he will join an elite group of global refereeing experts to further his expertise in the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system.
Expressing his gratitude, Sikazwe acknowledged FAZ’s unwavering support throughout his career, even into his retirement. “I am extremely delighted to get this opportunity and support from FAZ, which has always valued my skills. VAR is definitely the future, and we, as Zambians, must ensure we are in tune with the rest of the world,” he stated.
Sikazwe has been a trailblazer in the implementation of VAR technology. He was among the pioneering referees during FIFA’s initial VAR pilot at the Club World Cup in Tokyo in 2018, a tournament that featured notable teams such as Real Madrid and Kashima Antlers.
As the lead consultant on the FAZ VAR pilot project, Sikazwe’s participation in the course is expected to significantly bolster Zambia’s refereeing standards.
His expertise will be crucial in training and preparing local referees for the adoption of VAR, ensuring they meet international standards.
FAZ’s investment in Sikazwe’s ongoing professional development underscores its commitment to improving the quality of football officiating in Zambia.
By equipping referees with advanced skills and knowledge, FAZ aims to elevate the game’s integrity and competitiveness both locally and internationally.
