Zambia Celebrates World Metrology Day with Focus on Sustainability
Zambia joined the international community on May 20th to commemorate World Metrology Day, themed “Sustainability: Measuring Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow.”
This year marks the official recognition of the day by UNESCO, highlighting the importance of metrology in scientific advancement, global trade, and environmental protection.
Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, expressed gratitude to UNESCO for their support in elevating metrology’s significance.
He emphasized Zambia’s commitment to collaborating with partners to harness metrology’s power for sustainable development and national prosperity.
Minister Mulenga pointed to the current drought as an example of why sustainable practices are crucial.
He stressed the Ministry’s commitment, through the Zambia Metrology Agency (ZMA), to support professionals with legal metrology and technical services.
The Minister also launched the ZMA Service Charter, ensuring the agency delivers services effectively and efficiently to meet client needs.
He visited exhibition booths, including one showcasing electric vehicles from Southern Cross Motors.
