Expired Beverages Seized in Nakonde by ZCSA
The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has taken decisive action against expired beverages, seizing and withdrawing them from the market in Nakonde District.
Onishias Maamba, the Public Relations Officer at Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency, reported that over 20 crates of beverages, valued at K2,790, were confiscated from Punga Waba Kankwe and Ishmu Poultry Farms.
These products, allegedly originating from Lusaka a month prior, were found to be in violation of the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017 during a weekend spot check on various market-supplied items.
Mr. Maamba emphasized that such enforcement actions are essential to uphold public safety and health, warning of punitive measures against entities disregarding Zambian laws in manufacturing, importing, and supplying beverages.
He underscored ZCSA’s commitment to ongoing enforcement and public education efforts nationwide to ensure the supply of safe products to consumers.
These initiatives aim to enhance product safety, consumer protection, and overall compliance with relevant standards while fostering greater consumer awareness regarding product safety.
ZCSA, operating under the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry (MCTI), is mandated by the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017 to administer, maintain, and enforce compulsory standards to safeguard public safety and health, as well as consumer and environmental protection.
