Zambia Seeks Expanded Cooperation with Czech Republic on Environment, Green Economy
Zambia’s Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Hon. Eng. Collins Nzovu, is seeking expanded cooperation with the Czech Republic on environmental and economic issues.
During a meeting with a Czech delegation led by Senate President Milos Vystrcil, Hon. Nzovu acknowledged the existing partnership between the two countries in agriculture, health, and education.
However, he stressed the potential for further collaboration in several key areas.
One area of focus is drought response and recovery. Zambia is currently battling a drought that has impacted crops, particularly maize.
Minister Nzovu appealed for Czech support in addressing the immediate crisis and building resilience to future climate challenges.
Greening the economy and sustainable forest management are also priorities for Zambia. Hon. Nzovu recognized the Czech Republic’s involvement in the Zambia-EU forest partnership and urged them to expand their participation.
This collaboration could promote sustainable forest practices, create green jobs, and reduce deforestation.
Hon. Nzovu also highlighted Zambia’s abundant battery minerals, such as copper and cobalt, which are essential for electric vehicle production.
He proposed a joint venture with the Czech Republic to develop a battery and electric vehicle industry in a special economic zone co-established with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
President Vystrcil echoed the call for broader cooperation, particularly in mining, agriculture, water management, and environmental protection.
He also envisioned collaboration between Zambian and Czech legislators on governance and economic issues.
This meeting signifies Zambia’s commitment to a sustainable future and its desire to partner with the Czech Republic in achieving this goal. By working together on green initiatives, drought resilience, and e-mobility, both nations stand to gain significant advantages.
