Zambia Makes History with Best Ever Medal Haul at 2023 African Games
Zambia has just achieved something big in sports. At the 2023 African Games held in Ghana, Zambia won a total of 15 medals. This is the most medals Zambia has ever won in the history of the tournament. It’s a proud moment for the country and its athletes.
The Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts led the charge, overseeing Zambia’s participation in five different sports: athletics, boxing, swimming, judo, and taekwondo. Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved, Zambia ranked fourteenth overall in the competition.
The athletics team did particularly well, grabbing three medals. They won gold in the men’s 4x400m relay and silver in the men’s 400m race and the women’s 4x400m relay. These achievements show how skilled Zambian athletes are on the track.
Boxing was another strong area for Zambia, with seven medals in total. This included two golds in the men’s 51kg and 67kg categories, as well as three silvers and two bronzes. It’s clear that Zambian boxers are among the best in Africa.
Judo also brought glory to Zambia, with two medals—a gold in the men’s 66kg category and a bronze in the men’s 60kg category. This shows that Zambian judokas have what it takes to compete at the highest level.
In taekwondo, Zambia secured a bronze medal in the men’s under-30 category, adding to the country’s success in martial arts.
Swimming contributed to Zambia’s medal tally too, with two bronze medals in the women’s 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle events. This highlights the diversity of talent within Zambia’s sporting community.
The 2023 African Games, which took place from March 8th to March 22nd in Ghana, provided Zambia with a platform to showcase its sporting prowess. As the country celebrates this historic achievement, it looks forward to even more success in the future.
