Children Take Over Airwaves on ICDB to Amplify Their Voices
On March 3rd, children from diverse backgrounds seized control of the airwaves in celebration of the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB).
Across computers, microphones, and studio consoles, these young voices have engaged in a plethora of broadcasting activities, spanning from interactive programs to news reporting, showcasing their talents and perspectives.
Under the theme “Children’s Voices, Children’s Rights-Our Collective Responsibility,” this year’s ICDB has been a platform leveraged by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services to amplify issues surrounding children’s participation in socio-economic spheres.
Ms. Doreen Mwamba, Minister of Community Development and Social Services, emphasized the need for a multifaceted approach to enhance children’s involvement.
She urged the nation to attentively listen to children’s voices, acknowledging their capacity to shed light on issues affecting their rights. Mwamba also issued a caution against detrimental behaviors like alcohol and substance abuse, immoral conduct, and other negative habits that impede development.
Encouraging a positive outlook on life, the Minister urged children to prioritize education and skills development, aspiring to become exemplary figures within their families, peer groups, and communities.
The Ministry’s team actively participated in various media outlets alongside children, demonstrating solidarity and support for their passion for broadcasting.
As part of the commemoration, children were treated to a nutritious lunch, ensuring they remained energized throughout the day packed with educational, lifestyle, and health programming broadcasted across the nation’s airwaves.
The International Children’s Day of Broadcasting serves as a poignant reminder of the significance of amplifying children’s voices and upholding their rights, reinforcing the collective responsibility to nurture and empower the younger generation for a brighter future.
