FAZ Appoints Derrick Kafuli as Acting Referees Manager
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced the appointment of former FIFA Referee Derrick Kafuli as the acting Referees Manager.
This decision follows the suspension of Aziph Banda, with Kafuli deemed an ideal candidate to lead the restoration of integrity within the refereeing space.
Reuben Kamanga, the General Secretary of FAZ, expressed confidence in Kafuli’s credentials, emphasizing the importance of rebuilding confidence in the refereeing fraternity.
The appointment reflects FAZ’s commitment to addressing challenges and fostering a positive environment for referees in Zambian football.
FAZ acknowledged reports of match boycotts in three provinces, namely Lusaka, Central, and Southern provinces, citing various grievances by referees.
Kamanga commended provinces that continued matches despite these challenges and assured stakeholders that FAZ is actively working on solutions behind the scenes.
The reported concerns primarily revolve around transport issues and unpaid match officiating allowances. FAZ assured that intervention measures are being taken, and communication with referees will occur through established channels.
The association appealed to referees who have boycotted matches to return to officiating while their concerns are being addressed.
Kamanga reminded referees of their obligations to the game, emphasizing adherence to the prescribed code of conduct.
He underscored that football is a rule-based game, and compliance with the rules is essential for everyone involved.
FAZ is expediting the recruitment process to bring in more referees to meet the growing demand across the country.
Kamanga stated that announcements regarding the recruitment drive would be made in due course, expressing the association’s desire to groom quality match officials capable of achieving international recognition.
