Zambia and China Forge Green Partnership for Sustainable Development 

The Ministry of Green Economy and Environment in Zambia, led by Hon. Eng. Collins Nzovu MP, expressed eagerness to collaborate with China in enhancing the green agenda during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, His Excellency Mr. Du Xiaohui.

Highlighting the significant milestone of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Zambia and China, Hon. Nzovu emphasized the importance of discussions on green industries, technologies, and environmental infrastructure. 

The Ministry is committed to executing matters related to the green agenda as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two Heads of State.

“We look forward to exchanges between enterprises, social organizations, and research institutions from both countries in fields such as green industries, green technologies, and environmental infrastructure, including the construction of water, sewerage, and garbage treatment facilities,” stated Hon. Nzovu.

The Ministry is particularly keen on engaging in dialogue, exchange, and cooperation on policies and practices related to the circular economy. Hon. Nzovu believes this collaboration will enhance resource efficiency, generate green jobs, and improve the livelihoods of local communities.

China is set to organize the “Introduction of the China Zambia High-Quality Development Forum” on 15th May 2024 at the Kenneth Kaunda Conference Center. Hon. Nzovu revealed that his ministry would chair and coordinate the Parallel Forum addressing green economy and environmental issues during this conference.

Expressing gratitude for China’s support in resolving debt restructuring issues, Hon. Nzovu thanked President Xi Jinping and the Chinese Government. In response, Ambassador Du Xiaohui affirmed China’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with Zambia.
