Ministry of Commerce Launches CBM System for Enhanced Trade Facilitation
The Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry is actively implementing the Coordinated Border Management (CBM) system, streamlining operations by reducing border agencies at posts to just six key entities.
The chosen agencies include ZRA, Immigration Department, ZCSA, Port Health, NALEIC, and PQPS.
The groundwork for this initiative was laid with the recent signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) between border agencies in Lusaka. The primary goal is to enhance efficiency by consolidating responsibilities and fostering collaboration among the selected agencies.
As part of the implementation process, Mrs. Margaret Chikuba, Director of Domestic Trade, led a delegation to tour the Kazungula One Stop Border Post (OSBP) to assess the progress made by the border agencies. This mission also involved sensitizing relevant stakeholders about the upcoming changes.
Highlighting the importance of effective implementation, Director Chikuba emphasized the need for open communication among agencies to address any challenges that may arise during the roll-out of the CBM system.
The CBM Concept is currently undergoing a pilot phase at Kazungula and Chirundu OSBPs before extending to other border posts. Director Chikuba reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring the success of the system for enhanced trade facilitation, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on the overall efficiency of cross-border operations.
