The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has successfully distributed 438 hospital beds and 18 ultrasound machines to healthcare facilities nationwide.

The initiative, valued at K14,341,304.93, aims to fortify Zambia’s healthcare infrastructure and aligns with President Hakainde Hichilema’s commitment to ensuring a seamless supply of affordable and high-quality medicines and medical supplies.

According to Bradley Chingobe, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at ZAMMSA, 438 out of the 478 recently procured hospital beds and mattresses have been distributed to health facilities in Southern, Eastern, Muchinga, North Western, Copperbelt, Eastern, and Northern provinces.

Additionally, all 18 ultrasound machines have been successfully delivered and installed in facilities across all nine provinces.

Chingobe emphasized that the remaining beds and mattresses are scheduled for distribution to designated facilities by the end of November 2023, underscoring ZAMMSA’s dedication to fulfilling the healthcare needs of communities nationwide.

“The procurement and subsequent distribution of this equipment are in line with the pronouncement by the Republican President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, who has consistently emphasized the urgent need for a seamless supply of cost-effective and quality medicines and medical supplies in Zambia,” noted Mr. Chingobe.

ZAMMSA’s commitment aligns with the Zambian government’s health agenda, focusing on improving access to quality healthcare for all citizens.

The agency’s proactive approach in fortifying healthcare infrastructure is expected to positively impact the delivery of healthcare services, particularly in the regions that have received the distributed equipment.

Mr. Chingobe reiterated ZAMMSA’s dedication, stating, “We are entirely determined to improving access to quality healthcare for all in Zambia.”

The distribution of hospital beds and ultrasound machines is a significant step towards achieving a more resilient and efficient healthcare system in Zambia, reflecting the collective efforts to address healthcare challenges and enhance the overall well-being of the population.
