The Republic of Zambia and the Republic of Türkiye reaffirmed their commitment to fostering strong bilateral relations during the 3rd Session of Political Consultations held in Lusaka.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both nations to review their existing excellent ties and cooperation.
The Turkish delegation, led by His Excellency Ambassador Ahmet Yildiz, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, engaged in constructive discussions with the Zambian delegation, headed by Mrs. Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen, Permanent Secretary for International Relations and Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The event took place at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre.
Mrs. Gundersen extended her congratulations to the Government and People of Türkiye, marking the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, which was celebrated on October 29th, 2023.
She emphasized the shared goals of both nations in promoting democracy, economic development, peace, and security, which have solidified the unity of purpose between Zambia and Türkiye.
The Permanent Secretary highlighted the significant achievements in bilateral relations between the two countries.
These achievements include the establishment of resident Missions in Lusaka and Ankara, the signing of key agreements following the 1st Political Consultations, and the resumption of flights to Lusaka by Turkish Airlines.
Mrs. Gundersen stressed the importance of building upon these successes and swiftly implementing the signed agreements to realize their intended benefits.
Looking ahead, Mrs. Gundersen expressed Zambia’s expectation of Türkiye’s support as it assumes the chairmanship of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, as well as the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
She reaffirmed Zambia’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the already excellent relations with Türkiye for mutual benefit.
The 3rd Session of Political Consultations between Zambia and Türkiye reflects the mutual desire to further strengthen their diplomatic ties and cooperation, emphasizing shared values and interests in promoting peace, development, and prosperity.
