A Man Drowns in Lodge Swimming Pool During Birthday Celebration
A heartbreaking incident occurred on September 30th, 2023, when a 26-year-old man, Misheck Mutelo Lwendo, lost his life due to drowning in a swimming pool at a lodge in the Kamwala South area of Lusaka.
In a statement released by Danny Mwale, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, preliminary investigations by the police revealed that Misheck was celebrating his birthday with two close friends when the tragedy unfolded. After consuming some beer, he decided to take a swim in the lodge’s pool. However, things took a devastating turn when he failed to resurface from the water.
His concerned friends promptly alerted a vigilant security guard who, in turn, initiated a search operation. Tragically, Misheck’s lifeless body was discovered in the deep end of the swimming pool.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police officers found no signs of foul play, leading them to believe that the drowning was a tragic accident. The young man’s body was subsequently transported to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination before final arrangements are made for his burial.
This heart-wrenching incident serves as a reminder of the importance of water safety and the need for vigilance, especially when celebrating special occasions near bodies of water. It is a somber moment for Misheck’s family and friends, and our thoughts go out to them during this difficult time.
