President Hakainde Hichilema to Visit Tanzania for Union Day Commemoration
President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia has accepted an invitation from Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of Tanzania, to attend the 60th Anniversary of Union Day in Dar-es-Salaam on April 26th, 2024.
This significant occasion marks six decades since the successful union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, forming the United Republic of Tanzania.
According to a statement issued by Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during his visit, President Hichilema will engage in bilateral discussions with President Hassan to address mutual interests.
These talks aim to strengthen the bonds established during President Hassan’s visit to Zambia in 2023 and further enhance cooperation between the two nations.
Zambia and Tanzania share deep-rooted friendship and historical ties, particularly through their joint struggle for Southern Africa’s liberation. Their collaboration spans various sectors, including social, political, and economic realms, overseen by the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation.
Hon. Haimbe reaffirms the Zambian government commitment to collaborating with Tanzania across regional, continental, and international platforms such as the United Nations, the African Union, and the Southern African Development Community.
This collaboration aims to support each other’s interests and promote stability and prosperity in the region.
President Hichilema is expected to return to Zambia promptly after concluding his engagements in Tanzania.
