Tanzania and Zambia Address Trade Barriers at 3rd Bilateral Meeting
Tanzania and Zambia recently held their 3rd Bilateral Trade Meeting at the Tunduma/Nakonde One Stop Border Post on the Tanzanian side. The meeting took place from April 15th to 18th, 2024.
The primary goal was to address and eliminate remaining obstacles hindering trade between the two nations, known as Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs).
This meeting follows up on a previous Ministerial discussion on trade held in November 2023, in Nakonde, Zambia.
The initiative stems from directives issued by Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema and Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan during their reciprocal state visits in 2022 and 2023.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening historical bonds and economic ties between their countries. As a result, the Trade Ministers were tasked with tackling all NTBs to improve trade relations.
The co-chairs of the meeting were Hon. Omar S. Shaaban, Zanzibar’s Minister for Trade and Industrial Development, and Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, Zambia’s Minister of Commerce, Trade, and Industry.
They reaffirmed Zambia and Tanzania’s commitment to fostering harmonious trade policies and resolving any challenges for mutual benefit.
