Deputy Head Teacher Caught with Illegal ZNS Mealie Meal
Choma District in Southern Province was rocked by the discovery of approximately 300 bags of Zambia National Service (ZNS) branded mealie meal at a residence linked to a Deputy Head Teacher of Nahumba Primary School.
The raid, conducted by police following a tip-off from vigilant community members, unveiled the illicit operation allegedly orchestrated by Kaseba Musolesi of Macha road compound.
According to reports, Musolesi, alongside unidentified accomplices, was purportedly selling ZNS mealie meal at inflated prices from his residence.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Auxenxio Daka disclosed that the police confiscated a staggering 143 breakfast mealie meal bags and 139 roller mealie bags from the accused’s home.
However, Musolesi managed to evade arrest, fleeing the scene prior to the police’s arrival, leaving behind his family members.
The seized mealie meal, originally designated for the Sinazongwe district ZNS outlet, raised eyebrows as it was discovered in Choma.
ZNS Southern Region Commander Maybin Mundengo expressed bewilderment at the diversion of the commodity, which was intended for a different destination according to official records.
Col. Mundengo issued a stern warning to individuals engaged in illegal mealie meal trading, cautioning them to desist from such activities or face legal repercussions.
Despite the illicit nature of the operation, community involvement played a pivotal role in exposing the wrongdoing, prompting authorities to encourage continued cooperation in reporting suspicious activities.
