GABI Announces Unstoppable Africa 2024 Event in New York
The Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI) has revealed plans for its highly anticipated flagship event, Unstoppable Africa 2024, set to take place in New York on September 25th and 26th, 2024.
Building on the success of previous editions in 2022 and 2023, this event aims to convene leaders from business, government, and the United Nations to drive forward Africa’s economic agenda on the global stage.
Hosted at Cipriani’s in New York, Unstoppable Africa 2024 will coincide with the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, providing a crucial platform for dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders.
Under the auspices of the United Nations Global Compact, which coordinates GABI on behalf of the UN system, several engagements are planned leading up to the flagship event. These include participation in the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, on May 16th and 17th, as well as the African Union mid-year coordination meeting on July 18th in Accra, Ghana.
Sanda Ojiambo, Assistant Secretary-General and CEO of the United Nations Global Compact, highlighted the evolving nature of GABI into a year-round private sector-led initiative. Ojiambo emphasized GABI’s pivotal role in positioning Africa as a hub for business, trade, and investment, aligning with the continent’s development aspirations and global sustainability goals.
Led by UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, GABI aims to showcase Africa’s potential as a business destination and investment opportunity on the global stage. The initiative also seeks to contribute to the African Union Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Unstoppable Africa 2024 aims to surpass the success of previous editions, with a focus on key themes such as Energy Access and Transition, Inclusive Growth and Trade, and Digital Transformation.
The event aims to build on the momentum generated by Unstoppable Africa 2023, which saw significant commitments and partnerships forged to drive sustainable development across the continent.
Key outcomes from Unstoppable Africa 2023 included Ghana’s commitment to net-zero emissions and job creation, partnerships to enhance digital literacy, advancements in electric vehicle and battery industries in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and initiatives promoting women’s economic empowerment.
Registration and speaker announcements for Unstoppable Africa 2024 are expected in July. In the meantime, stakeholders are encouraged to engage with highlights from the 2023 event and stay updated on GABI’s initiatives through its website.
