However, amidst these developmental aspirations, the Minister drew attention to the National Disaster and Emergency declared by President Hakainde Hichilema on 29th February, 2024.
He urged all stakeholders to prioritize addressing the potential devastating consequences across critical sectors, including agriculture, water, and energy, to safeguard national food security and millions of livelihoods.
Dr. Musokotwane called for comprehensive and effective short-term and long-term measures to mitigate the impact of the disaster, including budget realignment, water harvesting, and building resilience.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing the 8th National Development Plan (8NDP) 2024 work plans, focusing on unlocking economic potential, promoting private sector investment, and improving public service delivery.
The Minister stressed the importance of good governance, accountability, and transparency in resource utilization, emphasizing investment over consumptive expenditure.
He reassured stakeholders of the government’s dedication to providing a conducive environment for socio-economic development, backed by the timely allocation and disbursement of national budget resources.
In essence, Dr. Musokotwane’s address at the NDCC meeting resonated as a clarion call to action, urging collective efforts towards overcoming challenges and realizing Zambia’s development aspirations in 2024 and beyond.
