Kansanshi Mine Expansion Demonstrates Progress and Community Engagement in Solwezi
The ongoing expansion projects at Kansanshi Mine in Solwezi showcased progress, job creation, and community benefits as Solwezi Central Member of Parliament, Stafford Mulusa, and other civic leaders visited the site to gain insights into the developments.
Led by MP Mulusa, the delegation, which included Solwezi Mayor Remmy Kalepa, Town Clerk Stanley Mbewe, and district councillors, was warmly welcomed by Kyansenga Chitoshi, the Corporate Affairs Manager at Kansanshi Mining.
They were then briefed on the expansion projects by General Manager Anthony Mukutuma.
During the tour, Mr. Mukutuma emphasized project milestones, underscoring the employment opportunities created for the local community and the involvement of local contractors in the construction phase.
Around 800 individuals have been employed during the construction phase, with an expected 1,800 more jobs to be generated as the project progresses toward its completion in mid-2025.
MP Mulusa commended the investment at Kansanshi and urged the people of Solwezi to support it, highlighting its positive impact on job creation and economic activities.
Mayor Kalepa echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of embracing the investment to secure employment opportunities for the community.
As part of its environmental stewardship efforts, Kansanshi Mine initiated a tree planting campaign, aiming to plant over 30,000 trees this season.
The delegation was led to the tree planting site by the Kansanshi General Manager and the Environmental Manager, Arnold Malambo, underscoring the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
