Lusaka City Council Distributes Desks to Schools in Kabwata Constituency
The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has handed over 1,191 desks to seven schools in Kabwata Constituency, addressing the shortage of seating furniture and enhancing the learning environment for students.
Timothy Mwanakatwe Primary, Chilenje B, Hillview Park, St. Patrick’s, Kamulanga Primary, Libala Combined School, and Muyooma Primary schools were the recipients of the desks, which were procured using the 2022 Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The handover ceremony, held at Timothy Mwanakatwe Primary School, saw the presence of notable dignitaries including Lusaka District Commissioner Mrs. Rosa Zulu, Kabwata Member of Parliament Honourable Andrew Tayengwa, District Education Board Secretary Ian Miyoba, and the CDF ward committee led by Provisional Chairperson Mr. Munkonge.
Funded under the 2022 CDF allocation for Kabwata Constituency, the desks were procured at a total cost of K1,444,278.85.
During the ceremony, Mrs. Zulu expressed her appreciation for the commitment of community leaders and educators in prioritizing the provision of desks.
She emphasized the government’s dedication to ensuring that every student has access to quality school equipment, emphasizing the importance of eradicating the practice of students sitting on the floor.
Mrs. Zulu thanked President Hakainde Hichilema for his leadership in realizing the vision of providing adequate school furniture.
She encouraged school authorities to ensure proper maintenance of the desks and urged students to attend classes regularly, highlighting the importance of education in national development.
Honourable Andrew Tayengwa celebrated the arrival of newly recruited teachers in the constituency, emphasizing the role of quality education in driving development.
He noted that the desks would help bridge the deficit and support the implementation of the free education policy.
Ian Miyoba, the District Education Board Secretary, commended the initiative, stating that free education has become a tool for empowering underprivileged students.
He highlighted the importance of a conducive learning environment in enabling students to achieve their academic goals.
