CTC Increases Ward Development Fund for 2024
The Chirundu Town Council (CTC) in Southern Province has announced an adjustment to its Ward Development Fund (WDF) budget for 2024.
The budget has been increased from K35,000 in 2023 to K125,000 for each ward.
According to Nakubiana Shabongo (Ms), the Public Relations Officer for Chirundu Town Council, this allocation will be distributed across each ward to support local development initiatives.
Ms. Shabongo mentioned that soon, the community members will be informed about the submission process for WDF projects in the upcoming year, encouraging active participation from different communities in the district.
“The Local Authority has also started orienting officers, both from the Council and Devolved Departments, on the Ward Development Committee (WDC) electoral process,” Ms. Shabongo stated.
This indicates the Council’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and inclusive process for the upcoming WDC elections.
With the tenure of the current WDC leadership set to conclude on February 15, 2024, the Council has scheduled WDC elections to take place between February 16 to March 27, 2024.
Ms. Shabongo highlighted the formation of a dedicated team to oversee the elections, conducting sensitization sessions to educate the community on various aspects, including WDC functions, voting procedures, nominations, composition, and eligibility criteria.
Chirundu Town Council encourages residents to actively participate in these elections, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in matters contributing to the development of their respective areas.
The increased budget for the Ward Development Fund signifies the Council’s commitment to fostering local development and empowering communities to take an active role in shaping their future.
